Moving a grand piano
A grand piano does not go down the stairs upright and rarely fits through a door as it stands. It is dismantled, laid on its side on a grand piano trolley and moved as a single whole. That is precision work: you have to know the instrument, not just its weight.
Dismantling and protection
The music desk comes off, then the legs and the lyre. The soundboard and the rim are wrapped before the grand tilts onto the trolley. Every loose part gets its own protection and travels in the same van, so nothing goes missing between two addresses.
The route out of the house
We walk the route in advance: door widths, turns in the staircase, the turning circle on the landing. If the stairs turn out to be too tight, the grand goes out through the balcony or the window on our own moving lift. We would rather decide that beforehand than on the day itself.
Setting up at the new address
At the destination we put the grand back on its legs, check that it stands level and place it exactly where you want it. Let the instrument acclimatise for a few days before calling the tuner.
